Turkish Airlines marked yesterday a historic milestone by starting flights to Melbourne, Australia for the first time in its history, being also the first airline in Europe to fly to this Australian city, on a route departing from Istanbul with a stopover in Singapore that will operate 3 times a week and is expected to contribute to boost tourism and trade exchanges between Turkey and Australia.
“The airline that reaches 130 countries and 346 destinations in 6 continents, has brought to its passengers the unique beauty of the city of Melbourne,” the Turkish airline said in a statement to announce the start of its flights to Australia. Turkish Airlines currently has a fleet of 450 aircraft, and in late January the company’s chairman, Ahmet Bolat, announced that the airline plans to double its fleet over the next 10 years to 810 aircraft by 2033, with the aim of becoming one of the seven largest airlines in the world.
