Turkish Airlines‘ low-cost carrier AnadoluJet will start operating its flights at the end of March under the new name AJet, with the aim of becoming one of the region’s leading airline operators. The new airline will be based at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen airport and Ankara’s Esenboğa airport.
AJet aims to carry 24 million passengers by 2024 – up 12% from 2023 – and to reach a target of 55 million travellers by 2033, Turkish Airlines chairman Ahmet Bolat stressed during the launch of the new low-cost air carrier. “With its new logo and new name, AJet will have a total of 3,000 employees,” said Bolat, who also pointed out that the airline, until now known as AnadoluJet – founded in 2008 as a domestic carrier, and which increased its passenger numbers by 30% in 2023 – has a fleet of 90 aircraft and flies to 41 domestic and 48 international destinations in 29 different countries. AJet aims to expand its routes to 44 countries and increase its fleet to 200 aircraft within the next ten years.
