Turkey responded harshly to the attacks and bombardments launched since early this morning by the Israeli army on the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon, in response to rocket fire launched after Israeli soldiers twice assaulted the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the third holiest place for Muslims.
“We condemn the illegal and immoral Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government must immediately put an end to the policy of violence that it has been deliberately pursuing for days. We stand with the Palestinian people,” Ibrahim Kalın, spokesman for Turkish President Erdoğan, declared on Twitter. “As in every Ramadan, Israeli jets bomb Gaza… We firmly believe that humanity will defeat oppression,” Mustafa Şentop, the speaker of the Turkish parliament, also wrote on Twitter.
