1,670 members of the Turkish police, gendarmerie and rural guard began this Monday in the Osmaniye, Hatay and Gaziantep provinces the Eren-8 Amanoslar operation, aimed at eliminating the presence in Turkey of members of the PKK terrorist group (Kurdistan Workers Party). Since it resorted to armed means in 1984 to achieve its political goals, PKK’s violence has caused more than 40,000 deaths, many of them civilians.
