The Centre for Combating Disinformation, part of Turkey‘s Presidential Communications Directorate, has in recent hours strongly denied reports that the Turkish army is preparing to invade Iranian territory if the US finally launches an attack on Iran.
In a message posted on social networks, the agency described the news as false: “The claims in certain media that ‘Türkiye plans to invade Iranian territory for security reasons in the event of a US attack on Iran‘ contain disinformation,” the agency said in a statement quoted by agencies.
The official note further underlines respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of neighbouring countries as a constant policy of Ankara, and recalls that Turkey permanently takes the necessary measures to protect its borders, regardless of regional tensions.
“Türkiye, which consistently upholds respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of neighbouring countries, takes all necessary measures to ensure the security of its borders 24/7, both in crisis situations and in times of normality,” stressed the Centre, which also urged the public “not to believe unverified information” and to rely only on official statements by the competent authorities.
Iran calls Trump’s accusations “big lies”
At the same time, Iran on Wednesday rejected Donald Trump‘s accusations about its missile and nuclear programme as “big lies“, after the US president claimed yesterday in his State of the Union address that Tehran harboured “sinister nuclear ambitions”.
Trump claimed that the Iranian regime has already developed missiles capable of threatening Europe and US bases abroad, and that is currently developing missiles “that could soon reach the United States” as well. During his speech, Trump also claimed that the Iranian authorities killed 32,000 people during the recent wave of protests that began last December.
