Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has described as “irrational” the promise made by the leader and candidate of the opposition coalition, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, to send all Syrian refugees back to his country if he wins the presidential elections in Turkey. “That would not be adequate, they are needed in some jobs,” said Çavuşoğlu, recalling that they have become a fundamental workforce in some sectors. The minister added that the government “is determined to return them”, but that they must do so “in a humane way”, safely and in a controlled manner, with the support of the international community and the backing of the United Nations.
