Istanbul, snow during spring

Snow surprises Istanbul and Ankara in spring

Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey’s two largest cities, were surprised yesterday by an unexpected and heavy snowfall despite the coming of spring, causing traffic problems and crowds in public transport. In the Turkish capital, snow reached even 30 centimetres thick in some areas, while municipal workers struggled to keep the streets clear. Despite these images, Turkey has experienced the third warmest winter in the last half century, and scientists warn that due to climate change, after 2050 we will not see snow in Istanbul.
