Heavy snowfalls in recent days in Turkey‘s eastern and northern provinces have brought life to a standstill in many regions of the country, where hundreds of villages remain cut off as roads are blocked by snow. The worst affected areas are in Kars, Erzurum and Ağrı provinces in the Eastern Anatolia region; but also in Trabzon, in the Black Sea region, where six people had to be rescued when their cars were trapped by snow on a road. Snowfall also forced schools in Erzincan, Van, Iğdır, Ordu and Giresun to close on Monday.
