Turkey has been shocked by a tragedy that has shaken the country, after just a few days ago a newlywed couple tragically died on their wedding night in a horrific event.
According to Turkish media reports, the tragedy occurred in the Emet district of Kütahya province in the west of the country. The newlywed couple, 23-year-old Mustafa Özer, an imam by profession, and his newlywed wife Havvanur Biltekin, were driving at night on their way back from attending the ceremony in the Balıköy district when their car collided head-on with another vehicle.
Despite the rapid arrival of emergency crews at the scene of the accident, they could only confirm the death of Özer and his wife – who were still wearing their wedding suits – while the other driver was injured in the crash. After the tragic news broke and while the investigation into the accident continues, several media outlets released footage of the wedding celebration, filmed just hours before the couple’s sad death.
Following the custom in Turkey, the funeral ceremony for the newlyweds took place the following day, just hours after their wedding night. The ceremony, carried out after midday prayers, was attended by a large number of neighbours and relatives amidst great grief, as well as numerous political and religious authorities of the province. The burial took place later at the cemetery in the village of Yataklı, where the wedding took place, and the two were buried next to each other.
