Turkey, lawyers protest in Ankara

Protests of bar associations against Turkish government

60 of Turkey’s 80 bar associations marched to the Turkish capital, Ankara, to protest against a draft law that Erdoğan’s AKP party is debating in parliament and that would change the system for elections in bar associations, which they claim will diminish their rights and their independence. The government denies this and recalls that the law is still being debated. Protesters staged a sit-in in protest after the police prohibited them from entering Ankara.
