Temperatures up to 12 degrees above normal are expected, hovering around 40 degrees in Ankara.
The heat wave that hit Turkey since last week will continue in the coming days and will last all week at least until Saturday, leaving even higher temperatures that could touch 40 degrees in the capital, Ankara, as forecasters have warned.
Thermometers are expected to reach highs between 3 and 6 degrees above average in Istanbul and other areas of the Marmara region, the Black Sea region, and parts of eastern and southeastern Anatolia, while in the rest of regions temperatures will be between 8 and 12 degrees above normal for this time of year.
In fact, meteorological experts warn that in September several areas of Turkey could register record temperatures not seen in several decades in the central provinces of the country, and especially in the Aegean region (west) and in areas of the interior of the Black Sea region (north).
In the capital, Ankara, temperatures could reach 38 degrees this week, and 32 degrees in Istanbul; however, the maximums will be registered in the south, especially in the provinces of Adana and Osmaniye – where maximums of 44 degrees are expected – and in Antalya, where they will be around 39 degrees.
The thermometers will begin to fall as of Saturday in the northwest of the country, but in the provinces on the shores of the Mediterranean (south) they will continue to be between 3 and 5 degrees above the average. Children, the elderly and those with chronic diseases are recommended to avoid going out in the hottest hours, especially between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
