A heat wave from Iraq that is affecting the centre and east of Turkey left yesterday record temperatures in Diyarbakır, in the southeast of the country, where thermometers came to show almost 50 degrees Celsius. Many people looked for shady spots or air-conditioned venues to try to escape the scorching heat, while children refreshed themselves by bathing in park ponds.
