After restoration works that has lasted 7 years, the Armenian Orthodox Church of Surp Giragos (Saint Cyriacus) reopened its doors in Diyarbakır with a religious ceremony attended by the Turkish Minister of Culture. Located in the historic district of Sur, the temple was built in 1376 and is the largest Armenian church in the Middle East. Restored in 2011, the church was badly damaged in 2015 during clashes with the PKK terrorist group, which forced thousands of people to flee the area.
