Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a meeting with members and leaders of his conservative Likud party that he is already working on a plan for “voluntarily migration” of Palestinians living in Gaza to other countries. “Our problem is to see which countries would be willing to absorb (these Palestinian migrants), and we are already working on it,” the Israeli politician said, according to reports published yesterday by the Hebrew-language daily Israel Hayom, the country’s largest circulation daily.
Netanyahu was reportedly responding to a member of his party, Danny Danon, who said during a Likud party meeting that “we must set up a group to deal with all those who want to leave Gaza and go to another country”. “The world is already discussing the possibility of voluntary migration (of Palestinians from Gaza). The Canadian immigration minister has said so publicly, and Nikki Haley (Republican candidate for the US presidency) has also said so.”
“We must set up an Israeli group to deal with this issue, and make sure that those (Palestinians) who want to leave Gaza for a third country can do so. A plan must be put in place. It is of strategic importance for the day after the war,” Danon added, addressing Netanyahu. Danon himself, along with Ram Ben Barak of Israel’s secular Yesh Atid party, reportedly openly proposed “voluntary migration” as a solution to the Palestinian issue in a recent joint op-ed in the US Wall Street Journal, in which they argued that “the West must accept Palestinian refugees“.
