NASA, the US space agency, has published a spectacular satellite image of Istanbul seen at night from the International Space Station (ISS): an image that has circulated on social media and that has quickly gone viral, as reported by Turkish media.
“Hey Istanbul, you’re glowing,” NASA wrote next to the image published on its official account on Instagram, which was taken on May 10 from the ISS when it was orbiting 423 kilometres above the Black Sea, as explained by the space agency.

For his part, the metropolitan mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, also responded from social media using his Twitter account to thank NASA. “Hey NASA, thank you for reminding us tonight that Istanbul looks so magnificent from space,” wrote the mayor of the Turkish metropolis.
This is not the first time that Istanbul – which yesterday experienced an incredible Supermoon at night – or Turkey have become the protagonists of spectacular satellite images; last April, a 2016 photograph of Lake Van taken by American astronaut Kate Rubins from the space station won a NASA contest as best photo of Earth ever taken from space.
