More than 2 million tourists have already visited Istanbul’s Çamlıca Tower

More than 2 million tourists have visited Istanbul’s famous Çamlıca Tower, which stands on the Çamlıca Hill and offers incredible panoramic views of the Turkish metropolis and the Bosphorus, since it was inaugurated just four years ago.

Designed in the shape of a tulip and located on Çamlıca Hill, at the highest point of the city, this gigantic tower has become one of Istanbul’s main tourist attractions in recent years thanks to the 360-degree panoramic views it offers of the city and the Bosphorus Strait from its impressive Observation Terrace, and has welcomed some 2.3 million visitors over the past four years, Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu was quoted as saying by the Anatolia news agency.

The huge telecommunications tower was built with the latest technology and reaches a height of 587 metres above sea level at its highest point, including its 201-metre-high reinforced concrete vertical structure and 168-metre-high steel antenna. The Çamlıca Tower is divided into 49 levels and includes observation points, restaurants, and leisure and lounge areas. To anchor such a vertical structure to the ground, a 58-metre wide and 21-metre deep foundation had to be dug into the Çamlıca Hill to support the tower.

In addition to its obvious appeal for tourism, the Çamlıca Tower is in fact a telecommunications tower that performs a vital function, transmitting 100 FM radio stations, 16 analogue terrestrial television channels and 15 DAB+ digital radio broadcasts. It also provides technical infrastructure to GSM operators, shared radio systems and public institutions. In addition, the construction of the tower served to eliminate the visual impact of the 33 antennas that formerly dominated Çamlıca Hill and could be seen from all over the city, as well as to reduce electromagnetic radiation levels in the area by a factor of 15.
