Legendary Orient Express returns to Istanbul

The legendary Orient Express, one of the most luxurious trains in the world that since 1883 connected Paris with the ancient Constantinople (today Istanbul), returned to Turkey this week after 3 years of hiatus due to the pandemic. The convoy arrived in Istanbul with 54 passengers and 16 cars: 9 sleeping cars, 2 lounge cars, 3 restaurant cars, and a bar car. Featured in famous films and novels, including Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express,” this convoy is actually a version of railroad enthusiast and businessman James B. Sherwood, who purchased and restored the original Simplon Orient Express carriages, since the original line of the Orient Express stopped operating at the end of 2009, already linking only Strasbourg with Vienna. The modern Orient Express is a luxury tourist train that runs for 5 days and costs about 7,000 euros per passenger.
