Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport will begin operating as a ‘silent airport‘ starting May 10, drastically reducing public address announcements inside the terminal with the aim of improving passengers‘ comfort and creating a more peaceful travel environment.
According to the Turkish news portal TRT Haber, the Istanbul Asian Airport will launch this initiative to modernize passenger services and adapt to increasingly digital travel habits, where real-time notifications have largely replaced traditional public address announcements.
As part of these new measures, the number of PA system announcements throughout the terminal will be significantly reduced: this means that announcements will not be made except in exceptional situations, such as emergencies, critical safety information, or for operational needs.
With the new system, passengers will be able to check their flight information via the FIDS (Flight Information Display System) screens located throughout the terminal, as well as through their airline’s communication channels, including mobile apps and SMS or email notifications. They will also be able to track information using the airport’s mobile app or its digital assistant SAVVy.
According to data from the airport operator HEAŞ, Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport recorded 23,688 aircraft movements in January 2026 and welcomed 4.19 million passengers, a 14% increase compared to the same month the previous year; the figure includes 1.75 million domestic travelers and 2.43 million international passengers.
