Inflation in Turkey rose again to over 61% in September, according to the latest data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK): almost 3 points higher than the inflation figure for August, when the Turkish basket of goods rose by 58.9%. Thus, prices in Turkey continue to climb for the third consecutive month, which has led the Turkish Central Bank to adopt an increasingly tight monetary policy with record interest rate hikes, the latest of which raised them to 30%.
The report released earlier today by TÜİK notes that the biggest rise in inflation in Turkey compared to the previous month was in education (30.27%), followed by housing (5.8%), which accumulated an annual increase in its prices of 20.2%; it was followed by food (3.3%), which compared to the same month last year accumulated a price increase of 75.1%. Other significant price increases compared to August were recorded in alcohol and tobacco (10%), transport (4.4%) and clothing and footwear (2.59%).
