Hundreds of villages in Turkey have been cut off by snow following heavy snowfall in recent days, which has particularly affected the central-eastern part of the country but has also caused snowfall in cities such as Istanbul. The snow has closed dozens of secondary roads in the southeastern Anatolian provinces, where dozens of snow ploughs are trying to keep the roads clear. The snow, which in some regions has reached more than half a metre in height, has also forced the suspension of classes in some rural areas of the region.
