Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan criticised the bombings carried out by the US and the UK against Yemen’s Houthi rebels, saying that these attacks will only serve to turn the Red Sea into a “bloodbath”. “First of all, these are not proportionate strikes. All this constitutes a disproportionate use of force,” Erdoğan told reporters on Friday from Istanbul, referring to the bombings launched in response to Houthi attacks on Israel-linked ships.
“It is as if they are seeking to turn the Red Sea into a bloodbath,” said Erdoğan, who claimed that his government has received reports that the Houthi rebels “successfully defended themselves and gave a successful response to both the US and the UK“. Regarding the genocide charges brought by South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice, the Turkish president said he had confidence in the court and announced that Turkey provided documentary evidence in the case against the Israeli government. “We will continue to provide documentation… I believe Israel will be found guilty. Netanyahu no longer has any hole to hide in,” he said.
