Mehmet Aydın, a fugitive from Turkish justice for 3 years due to a pyramid scheme hiding in South America, turned himself in to the Turkish consulate in Sao Paulo (Brazil) after having been living in Uruguay. Included in 2019 in Interpol‘s Red List of Most Wanted People, Aydın founded in 2016 (being only 26 years old) Çiftlik Bank (Farm Bank), a FarmVille-style Facebook game where players could invest real money that was supposedly invested in agricultural facilities, promising impossible profits that attracted more than 130,000 investors and generated Aydın income of more than 200 million euros, with which he even created a network of franchises throughout the country. The reality is that everything was a pyramid scam, and that the supposed benefits were generated with the entry of new investors; when the system collapsed, Aydın fled with his wife to Uruguay, where he led a life of luxury and drove a Ferrari. In a video posted after his arrest, Aydın claimed to be innocent and also a victim of people from the company who had stolen money. He is expected to be extradited to Turkey in days.
