In the 21st round of the Turkish league, Fenerbahçe imposed their rhythm from the start and sealed a convincing 3-1 victory over Ankara’s Gençlerbirliği at the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium in Istanbul, in a match in which the Spaniard Marco Asensio once again stood out for his good play and, especially, for a really luxurious pass that allowed the second goal to be scored.
The home side began to dominate the game from the first half and soon took the lead thanks to a goal from Anderson Talisca, who easily converted after 16 minutes from a penalty spot spotted minutes earlier by the VAR, who did not hesitate to penalise a handball in the area by the Slovenian centre-back Žan Žužek.
Just over 10 minutes later, Marco Asensio produced a spectacular piece of play to deliver an absolutely golden pass that deceived the entire defence of the capital’s side, allowing Kerem Aktürkoğlu to surprise the opposition goalkeeper, Ricardo Velho, who was powerless to stop the Turkish striker’s onslaught.
With the score already 2-0 in favour of the Yellow Canaries, Aktürkoğlu again scored Fenerbahçe’s third goal just a few minutes later (33rd minute of the match) from a cross by Mert Müldür: the shot, taken from almost the same spot as the second goal, beat Gençlerbirliği’s Portuguese goalkeeper once again and left the game virtually sealed before the break.

After the restart, the Ankara side reacted and pulled a goal back 10 minutes into the second half through Sekou Koita, who struck on the edge of the six-yard box from Ederson Moraes‘ initial rebound from a corner: the Brazilian Fenerbahçe goalkeeper could do nothing to stop it.
Despite conceding a goal, the clear lead led Fenerbahçe to slow down the pace of play during the second half, although the team held firm: controlling the tempo and frustrating Gençlerbirliği’s attacking attempts, who were unable to close the gap on their opponents again. Indeed, Asensio – undoubtedly one of the stars of the match were it not for Kerem Aktürkoğlu’s brace – almost added a fourth goal for his team when in the 76th minute he unleashed a powerful left-footed shot from the edge of the box, that – unluckily – ended up hitting the post.
With this result, Fenerbahçe remain unbeaten this season and maintain their position at the top of the Turkish league standings, as well as the three-point gap to leaders Galatasaray, who also scored three goals against Rizespor on their visit to the Black Sea. Gençlerbirliği, meanwhile, remain 11th in the standings with 22 points and only 6 wins this season.
