The death toll from the 7.8 earthquake that devastated 11 southeastern provinces of Turkey on February 6 has risen to 47,975, of whom 6,287 were foreigners, mostly Syrians, according to the latest data on the quake given yesterday by the Turkish emergency agency AFAD, whose president, Yunus Sezer, indicated that 1.8 million people in the disaster zone are being accommodated in tents, container houses or other temporary accommodation; another 935,00 homeless people have been relocated to other provinces in Turkey, while demolition work continues on the more than 230,000 buildings that were badly damaged by the earthquake.
