Europe, China and the Middle East are some of the regions of the planet that are experiencing extreme drought, in many cases unseen in centuries, due to climate change. The European continent is already registering its worst drought in at least 500 years, with nearly 50% of its territory with water deficit and rivers such as the Loire, the Rhine or the Thames with critical water levels, which threatens crop production. China, which produces 95% of the cereals it consumes, is suffering from a combination of drought and high temperatures not seen in climate records, and warns that its autumn harvest is in danger. In Iraq, a persistent drought and temperatures of more than 50ºC have pushed the desert forward, reducing the flow of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
