Turkey, queues at a highway due to snow

Chaos, queues and accidents on Turkey roads due to snow

The heavy snowfalls that have fallen in recent days in much of Turkey, especially in the western provinces of the country, have caused serious traffic complications in large cities such as Istanbul, and forced to temporarily cut off traffic (except for vehicles with chains) on highways such as the one connecting the cities of Bursa and İzmir; here the snow caused queues of up to 25 kilometres at Susurluk district, in Balıkesir, which suffers its worst snowfall in two decades, trapping drivers for hours, to whom the authorities had to send food. The snowfalls have also caused many accidents, the most serious in Konya, where a bus lost control because of the ice and crashed into a car, leaving 5 dead and 38 injured.
