4 people of Pakistani nationality died this Sunday in Istanbul when a fire broke out in a store warehouse in Arnavutköy, a district located on the European coast of the city. It was the neighbours who alerted the firefighters after another Pakistani who had managed to get out alerted them that there were four more people inside the building, located on the basement floor and from which flames were coming out. “We heard voices, we broke the windows to try to save them; we tried to give them hope by telling them that we were going to rescue them, but the door was blocked by fire. When the firefighters arrived, the people who were trapped inside had died,” said a witness. The causes of the fire are now being investigated, as well as whether the victims only worked on the premises or also lived in it.
