23 people were injured, three of them seriously, in an accident early this afternoon when a heavy truck rammed an oncoming bus as it was travelling through the province of Sivas, in central Turkey.
The DHA agency reported that the accident occurred on the highway between Sivas and Tokat in the Yıldızeli district at around 14:00 local time (13:00 CET), when the truck hit the bus travelling in the opposite direction, according to initial indications due to the slippery state of the asphalt because of rain.
The tremendous impact caused the bus to lose control and immediately run off the road, travelling some 150 metres uphill and across country until it came to a stop. After the emergency services were alerted, ambulances, gendarmerie teams, and members of the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) were dispatched to the scene.
The injured were transferred to hospitals in the nearby town of Yıldızeli for treatment. The local governor confirmed that three of the people injured in the crash are in serious condition. Authorities have launched a judicial investigation to determine possible responsibility for the accident.
