A recent poll carried out by the Turkish consultancy company GENAR that addressed the vote intention for the upcoming elections in Turkey, also analyzed public opinion after the recent earthquakes that have devastated the southeast of Turkey. The results, obtained from 3,000 interviews in which earthquake survivors also participated, show that 96.5% consider these earthquakes the worst disaster in Turkey’s history, and that 63.6% believe that the response of the government and institutions such as AFAD was adequate, despite the fact that 78.4% admit that the country was not prepared for this disaster. However, it is surprising that only 34.9% of those surveyed consider that the opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu would have acted better than Erdoğan in the face of the tragedy; furthermore, 67.6% believe that the Turkish opposition would have been incapable of dealing with a similar disaster.
