At least 16 people were injured and dozens of houses and vehicles were severely damaged by a tornado unleashed in the middle of the night during a severe storm that struck the Çeşme district in İzmir province, on Turkey’s west coast. The force of the tornado was such that it lifted several cars up to 10 meters in the air, destroying roofs and sinking several ships in the harbour. Authorities are still trying to assess the cost of all the damages, which are expected to be substantial.
