At least 2 people died as a result of the serious floods that have once again devastated the Turkish city of İzmir, located in the west of the country and the third most populous in Turkey, forcing the authorities to ask citizens not to leave their homes. The rain, which began in the night from Monday to Tuesday, increased in intensity to 126 litres per square meter, also affecting other municipalities in the province such as Aliağa, Foça or Dikili. Weather forecast warns that heavy rainfall will continue Tuesday in İzmir and Aydın provinces.
