121 women have managed to enter the Turkish parliament after the last parliamentary elections held in Turkey, 18 more than in the previous legislature, which represents an increase of only 3% and, in practice, is equivalent to saying that approximately 1 in every 5 deputies of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) – which consists of 600 members – is a woman. In fact, some civil associations have already criticized that only 17% of the candidates on the party lists have been women. In this way, 50 of the 267 deputies obtained by the AKP party are women; 31 out of 169 in the CHP, 30 out of 61 in the Green Left Party (Kurdish nationalists), 6 out of 44 in the İYİ Parti, 3 out of 50 in the MHP, and 1 out of 4 in the Turkish Workers’ Party (TİP).
