The temple of god Apollo at Didim, located in the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Didyma, in the Turkish province of Aydın, and one of the best preserved ancient temples in the world, is being restored after a year of hiatus due to the coronavirus. Restoration work is mainly focused on the 124 columns of the temple, especially three of 20 meters high. About 100,000 tourists visit this temple each year, unearthed at the beginning of the 20th century after being destroyed in 1493 by a great earthquake that devastated what was left of Didyma. Home to a famous oracle, its construction began in 560 BC but it was never finished due to its enormous size. It is said that even the Roman emperor Caligula himself tried to finish the temple, without success.
