Turkish President and leader of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Tayyip Erdoğan, vowed to achieve an even bigger victory in the 2nd round of the presidential elections, announced by the Central Electoral Board (YSK) for May 28, after none of the presidential candidates managed to pass the threshold of 50% of the vote. “I thank you all for your hard work, your efforts and sacrifices… Now is the time to crown the success we achieved on May 14 with a major victory,” Erdoğan posted on his Twitter profile on Tuesday, recalling that the date of May 28 will be the day after the anniversary of the 1960 coup.
Erdoğan, who obtained 49.5% of the vote, will compete in the second round against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, candidate of the opposition coalition, who obtained 44.9% of the vote, a result similar to that given by the more rigorous polls, which Hispanatolia echoed. However, the big surprise of these elections has been the result obtained by the candidate of the nationalist coalition ATA, Sinan Oğan, who obtained twice the support that the polls gave him, and who could now have the decision on who will be the next president of Turkey.
