The Turkish Navy held the largest naval parade in its history on Sunday coinciding with celebrations marking 100 years since the founding of the Turkish Republic by Atatürk. Accompanied by an air show by the Turkish Air Force, 100 warships crossed the Bosphorus Strait that divides Istanbul in two, separating Europe from Asia.
The parade, dubbed “100 Ships in the Year 100” and presided over by Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan from the ground, included the first Turkish aircraft carrier, the TCG Anadolu, as well as the first domestically built frigate, the TCG Istanbul; 11 frigates, 10 submarines, 4 corvettes, 4 patrol boats, 17 assault boats, 8 anti-mine ships, 5 replenishment vessels, 6 amphibious assault ships, 10 tank landing ships, 18 auxiliary vessels and 4 assault boats also took part in the largest naval parade in Turkey’s history, escorted by 14 fighter jets.
