The last images of the young Turkish actress Ece İrtem, well known for her role in Turkish TV series such as “Kızılcık Şerbeti”, have come to light following her sudden death yesterday from a possible heart attack at her home in Kadıköy, on the Asian side of Istanbul. The footage, captured by security cameras, shows İrtem with her mother, who was by her side during the final moments of her life.
Ece İrtem died suddenly yesterday, just one day after her 35th birthday, whilst at home, after feeling unwell. A statement released by the interpreter’s lawyer indicated that the actress died on 15 June at around 12:00 midday whilst at home with her mother, despite the efforts of the doctors who attended to her to try to save her life, and that, according to initial findings, the cause of death may have been a heart attack.
Security camera footage released in recent hours in Turkey shows Ece İrtem entering and sitting down in a restaurant with her mother, and she later appears accompanied by a friend. Subsequently, the security camera in the building where she lived captured the television star’s final moments, showing her entering the building with her mother.
Strangely, the footage shows the actress staggering and walking with difficulty towards the entrance, assisted by her mother who is holding her by the arm; both enter the building whilst a man holds the door open for them, and the actress can be seen walking ahead with her mother pushing her from behind.
Actors and co-stars in Turkish series, devastated
Following her unexpected death, Ece İrtem’s body was taken to the mortuary at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul, where, once the forensic examinations and the autopsy was completed, her remains were handed over today to her father, Vural İrtem.
Several actors who were waiting outside the premises for the body to be handed over could not hold back their tears as they spoke to reporters about the actress’s sudden death. In statements reported by the Turkish news agency DHA, several co-stars from the series Kızılcık Şerbeti and other Turkish series such as Yasak Elma (“Forbidden Apple”) and Yeni Gelin (“New Bride”) spoke out about what had happened: “We are shocked; may God give her family strength. We are very sad; Ece was a lovely person. May she be happy wherever she is. She had the most beautiful heart in the world. She has left us far too soon,” said actor Bahtiyar Memili.
“We are still in a state of shock; we cannot believe it. We don’t understand where we are or why we are here. We are waiting to say goodbye, but I don’t understand what sort of farewell this is either. We are at a loss for words. She was an extraordinary person. I don’t think anyone can recall anything bad or unpleasant about her,” said actress Bahar Süer, who starred alongside Ece İrtem in the series Yeni Gelin (“New Bride”).
“She was a young, beautiful and intelligent person who inspired everyone”
“We knew Ece very well. She was a brilliant person. One of a kind. She was completely innocent,” said the Turkish-Brazilian actress Jessica May, who starred in the same Turkish soap opera. “We worked together for two years in Adana (where the series was filmed). We share so many wonderful memories. May she rest in peace,” added the actress, dressed entirely in mourning.
For her part, the Turkish actress and singer Feride Hilal Akın, who also starred alongside the deceased in Yeni Gelin, could barely hold back her tears as she spoke: “There really isn’t much to say. We’re all very sad; we loved her dearly. She was a young, beautiful and intelligent person who inspired everyone. She was like a sister to us. We were very close whilst filming the series ‘Yeni Gelin’. I had all my first experiences as an actress with her.”
According to the latest reports, it has been revealed that Ece İrtem’s body will be taken to the town of Kuşadası, located in the province of Aydın, on the coast of the Aegean Sea. There, the Turkish actress is set to be given her final farewell at a funeral to be held tomorrow at the Hanım Central Mosque in Kuşadası, following the midday prayer; afterwards, the young actress will be laid to rest at the local cemetery in Yeniköy.
