A bus of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s public transport company İETT collided this morning with a truck parked in the Sultangazi district on the outskirts of the city, injuring eight people, including the driver of the bus itself.
According to Turkish agencies, the accident occurred at 9:00 am local time (8:00 CET) when the bus, coming out of a curve, hit the back of a truck parked on the road – not far from a tram stop – as captured by security cameras, in which the driver of the truck can be seen climbing on top of the truck as he is about to fall from the impact.
The driver of the bus, in a state of shock and with a broken leg, had to be extricated after half an hour by the fire brigades as he was trapped in the front of the vehicle, while seven other passengers had to be evacuated by ambulance to hospitals in the area. Witnesses to the accident reported that the lorry had been parked in the area since the previous day, and complained that it is common for lorries to park on this road occupying an entire lane, with the consequent risk of accidents.
