The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Fatih Dönmez, confirmed on Monday that the country had suffered serious damage to its energy infrastructure in the southeastern region of Anatolia, affected by a wave of earthquakes that have already left 1,541 dead and 9,733 injured. In addition, the international port of İskenderun (Alexandretta), one of the most important in the Mediterranean, also suffered serious damage from the earthquakes, which have particularly affected the electricity and natural gas distribution network in Gaziantep, Hatay and Kahramanmaraş. There has been no damage, however, to the large oil pipelines or to the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction.
