The first Turkish mosque in Anatolia, built by order of the Seljuk Turkish Sultan Alparslan in 1064 after conquering the Armenian city of Ani, will be opened to the public on August 16 after a year of restoration, coinciding with the 957th anniversary of the taking of the city. The Ebu’l Menuçehr Mosque is located in the ruins of Ani, the former capital of the Armenian kingdom of Baghratida and nicknamed the “City of 1001 Churches”, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2016.
