Istanbul, ship almost collided with house in the Bosphorus

This ship almost collided with a house in Istanbul

The dangers of maritime navigation that the accident in the Suez Canal has exposed, were experienced again yesterday in Istanbul, when a Panama-flagged cargo ship avoided the collision with a house on the Bosphorus by only one meter. The River Elbe, a 90-meter long ship traveling from Russia to the United Kingdom, suffered an engine failure as it crossed the Bosphorus Strait and began to list towards shore; the captain miraculously managed to stop the ship when it only remained a meter to hit a house, a moment that was recorded by several witnesses. Although there were no injuries or damages to be regretted, Turkish authorities have denounced that the captain should have dropped anchor as soon as engines failed.
