Spanish midfielder Juan Mata, formerly of Valencia and Chelsea and who has been playing for Manchester United since 2014, landed this morning in Istanbul after having signed for one season with Galatasaray. The Asturian, 34, arrives on a free transfer after having parted ways with the Red Devils, and is one of the new additions to the Lions after the signing of the Argentine Mauro Icardi, who is already in Istanbul on loan from PSG until the end of the season, and for which the Turkish club will have to pay 3.5 million euros. With these signings, Galatasaray – currently 7th in the Turkish league – is trying to strengthen itself so as not to repeat its disastrous performance last season, in which it finished 13th, almost 30 points behind the league champion.
