Turkey’s new finance minister Mehmet Şimşek expects the Turkish economy to grow this year at 4.5% despite the country’s economic problems and the international situation, while pledging to maintain reforms to toughen policy fiscal and monetary, with the aim of guaranteeing financial stability.
“Our policies will follow international rules. We are shaping our monetary, fiscal and credit policies in such a way that we can guarantee that we meet our objectives. We will continue to take steps towards simplifying and tightening monetary policy,” stressed Şimşek, whose appointment by Erdoğan has been very well received by investors and markets. As Minister of Economy and Finance from 2007 to 2015, Şimşek led the Turkish economy to its greatest years of growth, even after the global crisis of 2008.
