At least six people were injured in a multi-vehicle pile-up in the Altındağ district of central Ankara this morning, after a chain collision involving six vehicles. Although the investigation is still ongoing, several witnesses point to a minibus driver as being responsible for the accident.
As reported by the Turkish news agency İHA, the incident occurred at around 11:30 on the Dışkapı Bridge, when a passenger minibus driven by a man identified by the acronym S.A. lost control for unknown reasons and collided with another commercial minibus. Both vehicles slid down the road and then hit a taxi, a van and two other cars before coming to a stop.
After the accident, witnesses alerted the 112 emergency call centre, which immediately sent ambulance, police and fire brigade teams to the scene. Turkish media reported that six injured were taken to hospital by ambulance after initially receiving medical attention at the scene of the crash, although none of them are in a serious condition. Traffic in the area returned to normal after the damaged vehicles were removed by cranes.
A driver involved in the vehicle pile-up in Ankara, Satılmış Pehlivan, recounted what happened: “The traffic had stopped. We also stopped and, just then, the taxi driver hit me from behind. I was thrown forward violently. The back of my car was smashed and the front of my car was also damaged. I lost control and hit the vehicle in front of me. An ambulance was called and the injured were taken to hospital. I think the minibus drivers are to blame, the rest are not”.
