A total of 5,229 people died in traffic accidents in 2022 in Turkey, according to recent data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), which also indicates that 288,500 people were injured as a result of 197,250 accidents that occurred last year on the Turkish roads. Although in general the number of accidents grew by 3.9% in 2022 compared to the previous year, in total terms the number of deaths fell by 2.5%. Almost 67% of the accidents occurred during the day, with Friday being the day with the most traffic accidents and Sunday the day with the fewest; by months, August is the month with the highest frequency of road accidents, and February the least.
