Istanbul, detentions during protests for May Day

More than 240 arrested in Istanbul on May 1 for violating the curfew

At least 244 people were arrested in Istanbul on Saturday for trying to demonstrate to celebrate May 1, violating the curfew and the lockdown decreed by the Turkish government until May 17 to stop coronavirus infections. In other cities of the country such as Ankara, İzmir, Trabzon or Artvin, there were also clashes with the police and arrests when groups of people defied the ban on going out to the streets to demonstrate for May Day. In total 355 people were arrested throughout Turkey.
