More than 1.5 million Turks have applied for social housing, following President Erdoğan’s macro plan announced on Tuesday to build 500,000 affordable homes for lower-income citizens. Considered the largest social housing construction project in the history of Turkey, and one of the largest housing construction projects in the world, the first houses will be delivered in 2025, and 20% of the total will be built in Istanbul. House prices in Turkey have shot up 160% in the last year due to rising construction and labor costs.
