Life imprisonment for civilians and military personnel for the 2016 coup

An Ankara court sentenced today 4 civilians and 15 former military personnel to 79 life sentences each for their participation in the failed coup that Turkey suffered on July 15, 2016, in which 251 people died and more than 2,200 resulted wounded. At the trial, held in a maximum security prison in the Turkish capital, Lieutenant Colonel and former army pilot Hasan Hüsnü Balıkçı received 79 life sentences for the bombing of the Turkish parliament, while another pilot, Müslim Macit, was sentenced to 16 life sentences for bombing a parking lot near the presidential palace, killing 15 people.
