Italian player Julia Ituma dies after falling from a hotel in Istanbul

The Italian volleyball player Julia Ituma died this Thursday morning when she fell from the 6th floor of an Istanbul hotel where she was staying, in an incident whose causes are still being investigated by the Turkish police. Ituma, aged 18, was a player for the Italian volleyball team Igor Gorgonzola Novara, where also played the Turkish Ebrar Karakurt, and which had faced the Turkish team Eczacıbaşı Dynavit in Istanbul the night before her death; after the match, the player returned to her hotel in the Üsküdar district, being found at 5:30 in the morning in front of the hotel lifeless, apparently after falling out of the window of the room she shared with her teammate, the Spanish player Lucía Varela Gómez.

Security camera footage shows Ituma left her room into the hallway at 10:49 p.m. and spoke on the phone, displaying some confusion, and subsequently sat on the floor in front of the room’s door for an hour. No one else entered the room at that time.
