Mesut Özil signs for Başakşehir of Istanbul

Former Arsenal player Mesut Özil changes Fenerbahçe for Başakşehir

Mesut Özil, a former Real Madrid and Arsenal player, signed yesterday a contract with Başakşehir of Istanbul initially for one year with an option for another, after Fenerbahçe confirmed a day earlier that the 33-year-old midfielder and the club had terminated by mutual agreement the contract that still linked the German footballer of Turkish origin to the Yellow Canaries. Özil arrived at Fenerbahçe in January 2021 after ending his contract at Arsenal, scoring 8 goals in 25 games last season; but since March he has not played due to an alleged argument with his coach, İsmail Kartal.
