First Orthodox Christian ceremony in 5 years at Sümela monastery

After 5 years suspended due to restoration work on the building, this weekend a religious ceremony was held by Orthodox Christian rite in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin in the old Byzantine monastery of Sümela, in the mountains of the province Turkish of Trabzon. The mass could only have a limited number of faithful due to restrictions because of the coronavirus. Originally built in 385 on a 1,200-meter high cliff, the Sümela Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate.
